Kathy Kallick was born
in Chicago, and has been among the elite of contemporary songwriters
and singers since co-founding (with Laurie
Lewis) the internationally-acclaimed band, Good Ol' Persons,
in 1975. She's also a rock-solid guitarist and in-demand teacher.
In 2001, she received a "Lifetime Achievement Award"
from the California
Bluegrass Association for all her contributions. Kathy
has released 14 albums, which include more than 100 of her
original compositions and arrangements, and been on countless
compilations. Both of her endearing and enduring releases
with The
Kathy Kallick Band - Walkin'
In My Shoes and Warmer
Kind Of Blue had substantial success on the
bluegrass charts.
Virginia native Bill Evans
enjoys a reputation not only as one of bluegrass' most skilled
players playing with bands from Cloud Valley to Dry
Branch Fire Squad to Bluegrass
Intentions to his
own groups -- but also as a world-renowned teacher and
composer. A UC Berkeley-trained ethnomusicologist, Bill is
the author of Banjo
For Dummies (Wiley Publishing), has produced three instructional
DVDs (AcuTab), and teaches at many banjo and bluegrass camps
each year. His first solo album, Native
and Fine, received an honorable mention for Instrumental
Recording of the Year from NAIRD, and Bill
Evans Plays Banjo was on many "Best Of"
lists.
Ohio-born Tom Bekeny
was a member of The Kathy Kallick Band for its 10-year span,
and has been part of High
Country for nearly 20 years. He's a co-founder of Done
Gone and Tenbrooks, an early member of Laurie Lewis' Grant
Street String Band, and is featured on Kathy & Laurie's
album, Together.
In addition, Tom teaches mandolin, recently released a mandolin
instructional DVD, and has composed a number of instrumentals
for both mandolin and fiddle, including one that's regularly
featured on NPR.
Cindy Browne is the
band's only Bay Area native. She has more than 30 years experience
as a touring/recording musician and teacher, playing a variety
of styles that range from jazz to classical to ethnic folk
to bluegrass. Cindy teaches in the music department of Dublin's
Las Positas College, and has accompanied the likes of Mel
Torme, Bob Hope, and Phyllis Diller -- but she's probably
better known for her music with the Bill Evans String Summit,
Wake
The Dead, Due
West, Kaila Flexer & Next Village, The
Webster Sisters & Scott Nygaard, Mimi Fox, and Kathy's
Reason
and Rhyme album.
